Here is a fun project you can complete in an afternoon and most definitely during rest-time, if you have little ones at home.
I shared with you last week that I am lacking in craft supplies at the moment, because all of our things are in storage this summer.
In reality, I really love being limited in resources, it forces me to use what I have to adapt to my needs. Our need this week was some Fourth of July decorations-a definite must for this weekend. I rummaged through our small stash of supplies here and came up with these quick and festive banners.
Supplies:
Banner 1: string, duct tape, scissors
Banner 2: string, worn-out book, scissors, stapler
Banner 1
1. Tear off strips of duct tape approximately the same length-no need to measure, just eyeball it
2. Lay the string across the strips-you can do this one at a time or to speed things up, I did three strips at a time
Then fold the duct tape over. It is okay if some of the sticky part is exposed.
If you have sticky parts exposed at the bottom, just fold them up.
Repeat until you have made a banner the length you would like.
Finish off the end of the string with a small piece of tape. Fold it over, then trim. This will prevent the string from fraying.
Red, white and blue and ready for the weekend!
And now for the next banner.
Banner 2
1. Tear some pages from your worn-out book
2. Cut the pages into strips-again no measuring here-just eyeball it.
3. Fold each strip in half and then fold in half once more.
Unfold your paper and cut along the folds, creating four small rectangles from each strip.
Grab your string and your stapler, fold the top edge of your paper over the string and then staple it in place.
Repeat until it is the length you desire.
Trim a "V" out of the bottom of each little flag and then your banner is complete.
Hang the banners together or separately.
A little patriotic and a little vintage.
Use the book page banner throughout the year!
Try the duct tape banner in different color combinations!
